SWOT ANALYSIS
IDEA 1:
This SWOT analysis is for my idea of a support group for people who have been sexually assaulted. It would allow me to raise awareness to lots of topics including the attitudes towards males who have been sexually assaulted. It would be relatively cheap to produce. However the idea would be hard to create a proper plot arc with, having so many protagonists. It would be hard to properly represent groups and peoples experience with being only a small show so I couldn't properly go into so many characters stories.
IDEA 2:
This idea is around a support group for people with disabilities in a small town. I liked the idea of being able to represent groups who are so regularly misrepresented in the media, and being able to educate people on these peoples experiences both within and outside the community. However it would be hard to produce sufficiently on such a small scale. And again having so many characters makes it hard to make a proper narrative arc and represent very single character without falling into stereotypes.
IDEA 3:
This idea is about a girl who is sexually assaulted by her brothers best friend and her journey to reporting it in the end. It would allow me to educate people on survivors experiences that have often been misrepresented in the media in the past. It would relate to the audience as the characters are of the same age group and situations and it may also help people to deal with their own similar experiences (personal identity). However, there is a risk of misrepresenting the characters I am trying to make by falling into stereotypes. Also, there may be other similar shows out there.
In the end I decided to go with my 3rd idea for my TV show. Because it is based on a successful young adult book, I know that it is relevant to the audience I am trying to target. This idea is also cheap for me to produce as it is a small scale, realistic, show. I will also know I am representing my characters in the correct way if I base them off their chapters in the book. Most importantly, I felt it was really important to educate people on the issues within the book in a way that this young audience would understand.
